EXPERIENCE

Meet the amazing stars for the Canada, USSR Summit Series of 1972 at the National Capital Hockey Show on Sunday, August 21st, at the EY Center. Free with your admission ticket.

EXPERIENCE

Paul Henderson indelibly put his fingerprint on Canadian sports 45 years ago Thursday, a moment frozen in time for those who held their breath for it and a revelation to a new generation of fans who have come to learn of it. Henderson's short, desperate shot, banged home in Moscow's Luzhniki Ice Palace, instantly was stitched into his country's fabric.

EXPERIENCE

Yvan Cournoyer shows not his face but his back. And to this day, 44 years after the dramatic image was recorded on grainy 35-millimetre film, the man nicknamed "Roadrunner" is entirely okay with that. In the photo taken Sept 28. 1972, Cournoyer is leaping into the arms of teammate Paul Henderson.

EXPERIENCE

Gary Smith was the right person, in the right place, at the right time. In 1971, he was a young diplomat, fluent in Russian, newly posted in Moscow. At the same time, he was also a passionate player and student of hockey. When Leonid Brezhnev, Andrei Kosygin and Pierre-Elliot Trudeau started using hockey to build bridges between Russia and Canada, Smith rose to the occasion.

CANADA VS USSR

The 1972 Summit Series between Canada and the USSR national hockey teams was the first time Canadian professional hockey players faced the Soviet Union’s national team. Many believe this special series changed hockey forever. This is a once-in-a-lifetime exhibit, and it is the first time it has been displayed live in Ottawa. This should not be missed. Free with your admission ticket.

HISTORY

Inside, double glass walls hold portraits and biographical sketches of each Honoured Member. Initially built in 1885, this historic building also serves as home to the most incredible collection of silverware in the world of sports, featuring all major NHL trophies, including the most famous and coveted of them all, the Stanley Cup and they are all coming to Canada’s largest and most exciting hockey show.

MUSIC

If there is one music artist that most if not all Canadians know, it is Stompin Tom Connors. Young or old, the words “The Hockey Song” are practically encoded in our DNA. Regular shows by Chad Mathews will be on the main stage at the show. Chad plays Stompin Tom perfectly and will be at the show to sing the Hockey Song and more. Chad Mathews plays shows all over Canada.

DAVID ARRIGO

World celebrity artist David Arrigo is world-renowned for his hockey and sports paintings. He has painted Team Canada, Wayne Gretzky, The masters and hundreds of hockey legends and sports figures. He will amaze you with his lifelike portraits of well-known sports figures. See David’s display at the show, a unique experience for a sports fan.
